How to Buy a Used Car Safely in Pakistan

Pakistan's used car market loses millions of rupees to scams every month. This guide covers the warning signs, safe practices, and how WheelClear protects you every step of the way.

6 Red Flags to Watch For

Seller asks for advance/token before meeting

Never send money before physically seeing the car and meeting the seller in person. Legitimate sellers never need advance payments.

Price is significantly below market value

If a 2020 Corolla is listed for Rs. 15 Lac when market value is Rs. 32 Lac, it's bait. The "seller" will invent a reason they need money upfront.

Seller is abroad or can't meet in person

"I'm overseas, I'll ship the car once you send the token." The car doesn't exist. Never pay someone you cannot meet in person.

Unusual meeting location or pressure to pay quickly

Be extra careful if the seller asks to meet somewhere unusual or pushes you to decide fast. Legitimate sellers are patient. Take your time.

No chassis number on high-value cars

Genuine sellers of cars above Rs. 5 Lac should have the chassis number. No chassis = no verified history = high risk.

Stock photos or images from other listings

Fake listings often use images stolen from legitimate ads. Do a reverse image search if something feels off.

6 Steps to Buy Safely

Always inspect in person

Never buy a car you haven't physically seen. Meet at the car's actual location, not a neutral or public spot.

Get an independent inspection

Hire a trusted mechanic to inspect the car before paying. Never skip this step for cars above Rs. 10 Lac.

Verify registration documents

Ask for the original registration book and match the chassis and engine numbers on it against the numbers stamped on the car itself. Confirm the seller's name matches the registration before paying.

Meet in person — always

Always meet the seller at the car's location before any payment. Never pay without physically seeing the car first.

Trust your instincts

If a deal feels rushed, the price seems too good, or the seller won't meet you at the car, walk away. No car is worth the risk.

Pay only after paperwork

Transfer ownership paperwork must be signed and submitted before any final payment. Never pay to 'hold' a car.
